Legacy

I have been thinking a lot lately about the legacy that I am leaving behind. What will people say about me when I am gone, how will my children remember the impact their Father has had on their life, will the work that I am doing be remembered at all, will anything that I have said or that I have done have any significant impact on the lives of those that I come in contact with on a regular basis? What will be my legacy?

The more that I have thought about this, the more I realize that the most important portion of my legacy that I can leave behind will be my Spiritual legacy. After all, the things that are done for Christ are the only things that will last, everything else will be burned up as the grass. The more I can instill Biblical values in my children, the more I can influence an point others around me to Christ, the more that I can live a life of integrity that backs up the words that I speak, the more effective and long lasting the impact of my legacy will be.

How does this translate to everyday living? How do I balance the demands of taking care of my family's financial needs with the ever increasingly important and eternal spiritual ones? How do I balance integrity with the complexities of the current business and social world we live in today? How do I keep in mind the ever increasing needs of others when there are days that it takes all that I have to simply make it through the day?

The answer to all of these questions is simple and in answering this question I am reminded of an old song that simply states, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace." The simple and short answer to leaving a legacy, to significantly impacting the lives of those around you, to insuring that your children are left with a spiritual heritage, and displaying a Christ like life, it is to simply walk with and focus on Jesus.

There is a man in the Bible by the name of Enoch, his legacy has lived on and will continue to live on for years to come. Enoch simply focused on God - And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him]. (Genesis 5:24 AMP) When Moses came down from Mt. Sinai, the Bible says that his face was glowing and it was because he had been with God, he had spent time in the very presence of God. What this world, your children, your church, your spouse, and everyone you come in contact with need is to be impacted by someone who is walking with God. When you walk with him, when you focus on him, your legacy will live on for years to come.

God Bless,
Nathan
