The Lie of Temptation

We are going through first Corinthians in our men's Bible study in our church on wednesday mornings and this past wednesday we read in 1 Corinthians the following scripture; Vs 13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
This scripture caught my attention because when we face temptation when we are faced with the choice to sin, to do something that is wrong, we believe the lie that God somehow looks at us in a different light, or that we are somehow bad for being tempted! That is simply not true...it is a lie of the enemy and I am here to let you know that there is not a temptation that you face that someone else has not already faced, the Bible tells us that temptation is common to man!!

Good news though....God is faithful!!! He will not allow you to be tempted or tried beyond what you are able to bear, and it gets even better, with EVERY temptation he will provide a way of escape!!! Isn't that awesome? So stop believing the lie that the devil tells you that you are bad because you are being tempted, remember Jesus Christ was tempted and he was sinless.

Hebrews 4:14-16 - Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

I would say that when we are tempted that would qualify as a time of need and seeing how Jesus was tempted just as we were we can call upon him and he can provide us the grace and mercy that we need to persevere in our temptation!!!

So stop believing the lie of the enemy that would say that we are somehow less of a Christian because we were tempted, remind him that he tempted our High Priest and was defeated and that through the grace and mercy of God we will not be defeated!!!!
